VINEYARDS

BENEATH THE SKIES OF LABRAZA

VYNES THAT SPEAK

The whisper of our land and its history

Each vineyard carries its own soul. The Mediterranean sun, slopes ranging from 400 to 900 meters above sea level, and clay-limestone soils — shifting from silty, sandy patches to areas where clay asserts itself — create unique microclimates that shape the character of every plot. Steep hills sculpt the landscape and allow the air to circulate, bringing freshness and vitality to the vines. In all this, there is a constant challenge: to work in harmony with nature, with patience, respect, and awareness.

Biodynamic agriculture is our guiding inspiration. By caring for our vineyards in this way, we not only preserve their essence but also capture the richness, diversity, and complexity of our wines. Most of our plots are surrounded by pastures and forests, a natural refuge that shields us from chemically treated crops. Here, in this corner of the world, we tend our vineyards like a treasure, listening to the land, honoring its gifts, and letting its whispers guide every step of our work.

MIRALASBUENAS Plot

Beyond the Pinar de Dueñas — the westernmost Mediterranean pine forest in Europe — lies a centennial vineyard of rare magic, known as Miralasbuenas. Planted with ancient goblet-trained vines, every task here must be done by hand. It is a world apart: wild, silent, and alive with the scents of the forest, where lavender, thyme, sage, and rosemary mingle with the deep fragrance of the pines.

Over ten grape varieties (at least 30% white) lend their character to the wine from this plot: GARAYA — “the one above” in Basque — the highest vineyard we tend, capturing the altitude, the air, and the soul of this remarkable land.

BATIÑUELO Plot

Sheltered from the prevailing winds in a sun-drenched south-facing valley, BATIÑUELO is the lowest and warmest of our vineyards. For over 70 years, its vines have bathed in near-constant sunlight, making them among the first to be harvested each year.

From this plot come four grape varieties that shape the character of Behera — “the one below” in Basque. Planted in a way that forbids the use of tractors, every task here is done almost entirely by hand. In winter, the vineyard becomes a quiet refuge, a place to sit and let yourself be gently accompanied by the vines, the sun, the holm oaks (Quercus faginea), and kermes oaks (Quercus coccifera) that embrace it. A land where nature whispers, and the wine tells its story.

  • Plot Size: 4,000 m²

LAS BALSAS Plot

LAS BALSAS is the youngest of our single-plot vineyards, just 40 years old. Nestled on terraced slopes facing north — a rare and challenging aspect — it has found its rhythm with warmer, longer summers, allowing the grapes to ripen slowly and evenly, revealing fruit of remarkable quality. Almost entirely planted with Mazuelo, with a touch of Tempranillo, the vineyard carries a distinct character in every cluster.

Here, the fresh air dances between the vines, blending with the scents of high-altitude plants like bearberry (Arctostaphylos uva-ursi), creating a living tapestry that nourishes the wine and whispers the story of this unique land.
